Just because you're retired, that doesn't mean that you have to stop being active in UUP. If you were a UUP member when you retired from SUNY, you are eligible to continue your membership as a retiree. Learn more about retiree benefits on our Retirement page.

The program for UMU/UUP members is handled directly through our chapter office. The open period to renew or start a BJ's membership will be held quarterly. Reminders will be sent out in advance of each open period.
The open enrollment periods are:
Membership applications can be picked up from the chapter office,or requested by email or phone.
Membership Period:
All current memberships are for 14 months, which may be added on to an existing membership. It's a good idea to know your membership expiration date and coordinate renewals with an open period. You can determine your current membership expiration date by looking at a recent BJ's sales receipt or call 1-800-BJS-CLUB (1-800-257-2582) between the hours of 7 AM and 11 PM EST. Please have your BJ's Membership number available.

Please make ALL checks/money orders payable to "BJ's." NO CASH. There is a way to pay by credit card, but keep in mind you may be sending information through campus mail. (If requesting return via USPS, please include SASE!) Your completed and SIGNED application with payment will be forwarded to BJ’s. Please keep the GOLD COPY as your “Temporary Membership” receipt. Processing of your membership takes approximately 3-4 weeks from the time the application reaches BJ’s.

Steps to obtain coverage:
1. Get emergency medical treatment, if needed.
2. Report injury to employer within 30 days.
3. Seek care from a physician who treats Workers' Compensation patients.
4. Call 1-866-FOA-4-UUP. Fine, Olin & Anderman, LLP will help you fill out the necessary paperwork (C-3 Form) to file your claim with the NYS Workers' Compensation Board, represent you at hearing s and answer your questions. You have 2 years following the date of injury to file a claim.
If you are not eligible for Old Age & Survivor's Benefits, but are unable to continue working for any medical reason, you should file for Social Security Disability.
1. If you are over age 30, you must have worked 5 out of the last 10 years preceding the onset of disability.
2. You must be unable to do ANY substantial, gainful work due to physical or mental imparements which have lasted or are expected to last at least one year.
3. You should file an application with the Socical Security Administration (SSA) when you have been out of work for 6 months. You do not need an attorney to file the initial application.
4. If your application is denied, request a hearing from SSA within 60 days from the date of denial and call 1-866-FOA-4-UUP (Fine, Olin & Anderman, LLP) for representation.
