Grievances, Problems, & ConcernsPhil Smith Michael Lyon 5.2.5: The Grievance Chairperson(s) shall be responsible for assisting members of the bargaining unit with problems and concerns and processing grievances according to appropriate procedures. When a Grievance Chairperson for Academics, and a Grievance Chairperson for Professionals have been appointed, their primary duties shall consist of assisting members of the category of the bargaining unit they represent and processing grievances according to appropriate procedures. Dates T.B.A. Chapter Legislative ActivitiesAgenda BUDGET PRIORITIES: • Resolve the state-imposed fiscal crisis at the teaching hospitals with a long-term solution that protects programs, jobs, and the hospitals’ vital public health mission. • Increase support to the SUNY Health Science Centers, health science and health related programs, and other health related institutions throughout the SUNY system. • Establish a State University Hospital in Buffalo. Continue to Restore Full-time Academic and Professional Faculty • Set a target of at least 70 percent state-funded, full-time academic faculty at each campus. • Provide funding for more full-time professional faculty. • Provide greater opportunity for full-time employment to our excellent part-time faculty. Invest in Campus Needs to Safeguard Access, Quality, and Programs that Promote • Fully fund enrollment growth at state-operated campuses. • Invest in the Technology Sector Colleges as they transition to four-year status. • Fund infrastructure improvements within SUNY, including libraries, laboratories, and information technologies. • Fully fund the SUNY Opportunity Programs. • Fully fund the SUNY Office of Multicultural Affairs. Solve the Remaining Fiscal Uncertainties at NYSTI • Return all UUP members at the New York State Theatre Institute to 12-month status and provide the LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES: • Pension Equity: Pay for the employee contribution to the optional retirement program (ORP) after 10 years of membership or military service recognition. • Provide unemployment insurance for part-timers. • Pass the Fair Pay Bill. • Support legislation that permanently prohibits public employers from diminishing health insurance Restore Public Employee Rights • Support sovereign immunity legislation that restores the civil and human rights of public employees Reform Public University Trustee Selection Process • Appoint trustees to SUNY and CUNY who advocate for public higher education.
